Why Not Give

Whether you’re a recent grad or a seasoned designer, you know that the price of college is at an all-time high. The cost of tuition — let alone supplies, room, and board — is becoming an even greater roadblock for the next generation of designers, especially for students from minority and economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

That’s why we’re participating in Giving Tuesday on December 3 to raise money for The AIGA DC Design Continuum Fund. This merit-based scholarship program that supports local design-minded students who are focused on social responsibility and cultural awareness.

We’re asking for your support to empower the future of design in the local DC, Maryland, and Virginia community. Because of support like yours, we were able to award 10 new scholarships, plus one sustaining scholarship to incredibly talented students during the 2019-2020 school year. Here’s why programs like the DCF matter so much:

“As an immigrant designer who received a scholarship when I was applying to universities, I realize the importance and impact this scholarship can have on designer’s growth and opportunity. Instead of working multiple jobs or stressing about funds, they can focus on their passion and find their voice. That is why I give and will continue to give to DCF.”

– Ambica Prakash, Principal at Eighty2degrees

If you aren’t familiar,
Giving Tuesday is a global generosity movement, unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and their world. This year, it’s more important than ever that you join this effort.  When you give, you’ll have an outsized impact as a part of a larger movement to make design more accessible. This is what we mean:

In giving to the Continuum Fund, I am part of a collective effort to not just sponsor, but also mentor emerging designers from underrepresented or marginalized communities. The collective part is important; if I were doing it on my own, there’s no way I could have the same reach or impact.

– Mira Azarm, Innovation Instigator at University of Maryland

The barriers to a college education have never been higher, but we’ll be able to provide financial support to local students and strengthen the future of our design profession — only with your support. Your investment in our endowment fund will help us sustain this program for many years to come.
