Creative Lunch: Sustainable Food System Design

Join us at Busboys & Poets for lunch and a healthy discussion around sustainable food systems design!

Four local experts in the space — Kristof Grina from Uptop Acres, Max Johansen from Busboys and Poets, Kate Urbank of Food Rescue USA, and Jeffrey Neal from Loop Closing — will lead a conversation covering:

  • How to collaborate with others in our area to create a more sustainable food system.
  • The benefits of urban gardening.
  • Logistics to running sustainable food businesses & cafes.
  • Introduction to composting in DMV.

We’ll discuss the many components of creating sustainable food systems in the DMV and invite participants to join in the conversation over lunch.

Lunch from Busboys & Poets is included, including Vegan and Gluten-Free options (served buffet style). Additional food and beverages will be available for purchase from their lunch menu.

Creative lunches are intimate gatherings that provide guests the opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at some of the most exciting studios and spaces across the DMV. Expect to leave feeling inspired and full (lunch will be provided)!

Please plan to arrive 10 minutes early to allow time for registration and grabbing lunch. The presentation will begin promptly at 12:00pm.

We cannot accommodate specific dietary restrictions or meal requests for this event; however, attendees may order alternative items from the full Lunch Menu, if preferred. We encourage attendees who wish to order a unique meal to arrive at least 15 minutes early.

About DC Design Week

Built by 100% volunteer power, DC Design Week is an annual celebration of this community, hosted by AIGA DC. AIGA Member On-Sale begins 9/5 at 10:00am and the General Public On-Sale begins 9/10 at 10:00am.

100% of the proceeds from DCDW events go toward future AIGA DC programming and the Design Continuum Fund (DCF) scholarship fund. We believe in fostering the next generation of designers through helping local design-minded and underrepresented students as they pursue their education.
