2026 Civic by Design

Join designers, technologists, and changemakers at the 2026 Civic by Design Hackathon, a partnership between AIGA, Designpreneurs Hackathon, Parsons School of Design, and the NYC Office of Technology & Innovation. Spend the day at Parsons for a conference on design, civic engagement, and technology, and see what happens when design takes on the systems that shape everyday life.

The program opens with the keynote series “The Future of Design in the Age of AI,” featuring design leaders who are shaping how the industry works, builds, and creates as AI changes the field. That’s followed by a panel of design leaders and civic designers on how designers, technologists, and government are building together to reshape public services, civic tools, and the way people experience their city.

Then watch the finalists pitch live. The top 51 participants from our online challenge, selected from hundreds of applicants across the US, have formed 13 interdisciplinary teams. Each team is solving a real problem for New York City, working from a challenge set by the NYC government itself, not a hypothetical brief. They’ll pitch to an expert jury from IDEO, Figma, Pangram, and NYC Office of Innovation and Technology, and also pick your favorite winners.

Stay to celebrate the winners and connect with designers, technologists, and civic innovators throughout the day.
